SHANGHAI (ICIS)--JA Solar Holdings has started construction of a new photovoltaic (PV) production facility at Hefei in China's eastern Anhui province, a source close to the company said on Wednesday.

The company is investing yuan (CNY) 13.5bn ($2bn) to build the 3-gigawatt (GW) facility, which will produce solar cells and PV products.

Construction started on 11 April, with the start-up of the facility slated in early 2012, the source said.

The facility is expected to generate annual revenues of Y30bn once it becomes operational, the source said.

Shanghai-based JA Solar Holdings is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of high-performance solar cells and solar power products, according to its website.
