HOUSTON (ICIS)--TPC Group’s first-quarter net income almost tripled to $11.4m (€8.0m) as sales rose by 39% year on year, largely driven by high butadiene (BD) prices and demand, the US chemicals producer said on Thursday.

TPC’s sales for the three months ended 31 March were $555.6m, up from $400.7m in the 2010 first quarter.

North America market contract BD prices increased throughout the quarter and outpaced feedstock costs, the company said.
