TEHRAN (ICIS)--Karoon Petrochemical Co (KRNPC) will start up Iran’s first methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) unit in Bandar Mashahr at the end of the first quarter of 2012, a source familiar with the project said on Sunday.

“[About] 85% of the [MDI] plant is completed,” the source said on the sidelines of the Iran Petrochemical Forum (IPF). He added that construction began three years ago.

The plant will be able to produce 40,000 tonnes/year of MDI, the source said.

“By February or March next year, the [MDI] plant should start commercial production,” he said.

KRNPC owns a 40,000 tonne/year toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) facility at the same site.

The IPF was held in Tehran, Iran, on 21-22 May.
