FUKUOKA, Japan (ICIS)--Jiangmen Handsome Chemical Development is looking at a 46% boost to its solvent acetate production capacity in China by 2012, via debottlenecking an existing plant and building a new line, a company official said late on Thursday.

Due for debottlenecking is its 300,000 tonne/year ethyl acetate/butyl acetate swing plant at Jiangmen in southern Guangdong province, the official said at the sidelines of the Asia Petrochemical Industry Conference (APIC) in Fukuoka, Japan.

The plant’s capacity will increase by 80,000 tonnes/year or by about 27% in July or August, the official said.

The company also has a 50,000 tonne/year butyl acetate plant at Huizhou in Guangdong province and a 150,000 tonne/year ethyl acetate plant at Taixin in eastern Jiangsu province.

“The debottlenecking will raise our annual solvent acetate capacity to a combined 580,000 tonnes/year in 2011,” the official added.

Meanwhile, Jiangmen Handsome Chemical is also planning to double its ethyl acetate production in Taixin, by adding a new 150,000 tonne/year line that should come on stream in 2012, the official said.

Up to 80-90% of the company’s overall production caters to domestic demand, but it is hoping to boost the share of exports to 30% of total, he said.

The two-day APIC 2011 runs from 26-27 May.
