HOUSTON (ICIS)--First-quarter US styrene monomer production fell 5% and inventories fell 13% when compared with the same time last year, the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA) said on Tuesday.
First-quarter styrene production was at 2.1bn lb (952.6m tonnes), down from 2.2bn lb at the same time in 2010.
Meanwhile, styrene inventories were at 503m lb, down 13% from 581m lb in the first quarter of 2010.
The decline comes despite stronger styrene spot prices in the first quarter.
Major US styrene producers include Americas Styrenics, INEOS NOVA, LyondellBasell, Total and Westlake Chemical – all of which contributed production figures included in the NPRA survey.
