LONDON (ICIS)--Yara has renewed a distribution deal with Brenntag for urea-based diesel emissions fluid AdBlue, the Norwegian international fertilizer major said on Tuesday.

Yara produces AdBlue under the name Air1 at its fertilizer complex in Sluiskil in the Netherlands.

The AdBlue brand is owned by Germany’s car manufacturers association VDA. It is licensed to carmakers and producers in the chemical and oil industries.

Under the renewal, Germany-based chemical distribution major Brenntag will continue to distribute Yara’s Air1 in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, the UK, France, Spain and Switzerland, Yara said.

In Germany, Poland and Italy, Air1 will be commercialised only by Yara, while Brenntag will continue to distribute under the AdBlue name.

“With the renewal of this agreement, we are confident to have the right set-up in place to meet the demands of this growing market, which now already feeds over 1m vehicles in Europe alone,” said Rolf Isberg, Yara’s head of global business for Air1.

Yara did not disclose how long the deal will run, or what its volume and financial terms are.

AdBlue transforms harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from heavy-duty diesel-powered vehicles and trucks into water vapour and nitrogen.

Yara sells AdBlue worldwide, including North America.

European AdBlue producers include Yara, BASF, Borealis and Poland's Zaklady Azotowe Pulawy (ZAP), among others.
