SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korean purified terephthalic acid (PTA) producer Hyosung Petrochemical shut its 420,000 tonne/year plant in Ulsan on 14 June for a turnaround, a company source said on Wednesday.

The maintenance will be conducted for around 7-10 days, the source said.

“Our contract supply will not be affected, but we will reduce some of our spot supply to China this month,” the source said.

PTA is mainly used in polyester production including polyester fibre, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle resin and polyester film.

Other major South Korean PTA producers include KP Chemical, Samnam Petrochemical, Taekwang Industrial and SK Chemicals.
