Explosion occurs at US Chemisphere’s storage facility, say reports

LONDON (ICIS)--An explosion occurred at US-based Chemisphere’s storage facility in St Louis, Missouri, at around 02:30 local time (08:30 BST), media reports said on Monday.

Around 500 people were evacuated and a section of a nearby road was closed as firefighters fought the blaze. Reports suggest that the blaze is now under control.

Chemisphere’s storage facility holds tankers which contain highly flammable solvents. According to reports, a fire department spokeswoman said that the solvents were acetone and ethanol.
