SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan Styrene Monomer Corp (TSMC) shut its 180,000 tonne/year plant in Lin Yuan on Wednesday because of mechanical problems, market sources said on Thursday.
"The company has announced a reduction in [styrene monomer (SM)] contract volume to customers for July and August due to the unexpected shutdown,” said a buyer in Taiwan.
The company operates another 160,000 tonne/year SM unit in Lin Yuan that is running normally, market sources said.
The other two SM producers in Taiwan are Formosa Chemical & Fibre Corp (FCFC) and Grand Pacific Petrochemical Corp. (GPPC)
