US May MDI exports rise by 5.1% year on year - ITC

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of mixtures of methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) in May totalled 1,908 tonnes, a 5.1% increase from 1,815 tonnes during the same month a year earlier, and a 20% increase from 1,593 tonnes the previous month, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Tuesday.

Through May, MDI exports increased by 5.2% to 7,503 tonnes, compared with 7,134 tonnes in the first five months of last year, according to the ITC.

The volume increase from 2010 to 2011 was caused by greater volumes shipped during the first five months to Brazil and Mexico.

Top destinations for US MDI from January to May were Brazil (3,012 tonnes), Mexico (1,515 tonnes) and China (1,333 tonnes).

US MDI suppliers are Bayer MaterialScience, Huntsman, BASF and Dow Chemical.
