SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s Jiangxi Global Chemical plans to start up a 60,000 tonne/year epichlorohydrin (ECH) plant in September, a source close to the company said on Friday.

A test run at the plant is expected in the first half of August before commercial operations begin, the source added.

While most ECH plants in China use propylene as feedstock, ECH production at the new plant will be “glycerin-based, [which] is more profitable, safe and clean,” said the source.

The plant is located at Yichun city in Jiangxi province, east China.
