HOUSTON (ICIS)--Formosa Plastics has yet to make a final decision on building a third olefins plant in the US, the company said on Monday.

"We're still evaluating the size of the project so decisions have not yet been finalised," Formosa's US spokesman Steve Rice said.

The statement came in response to media reports last week that claimed Formosa had decided to build an 800,000 tonne/year cracker in Point Comfort, Texas.

The company would invest more than $1.5bn (€1.04bn) in the project, the reports said.

Formosa has two olefins plants in Point Comfort with a combined ethylene capacity of 1.5m tonnes/year.
