GUANGZHOU (ICIS)--China’s Qingdao Refining & Chemical, a subsidiary of Sinopec, is planning to resume operations of all its plants at Qingdao in Shandong province on 10 August after a scheduled maintenance, a company source said on Tuesday.

The company on 20 June shut its 200,000 bbl/day refinery and auxiliary units, including a 200,000 tonne/year propylene unit, for a 45-day turnaround.

During the maintenance, the refinery’s capacity was to have been expanded to 220,000 bbl/day. However, this plan was shelved in view of high crude prices, the source said.

“Strong crude values are squeezing our refining margins heavily,” he said.

Qingdao Refining & Chemical can produce 7.08m tonnes/year of refined products and 2.03m tonnes/year of chemical products including polypropylene, benzene and mixed xylenes, according to its website.
