SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s Qinghai Salt Lake Industry Co has selected Dow Chemical Company’s Unipol polypropylene (PP) process technology for its new 160,000 tonne/year PP unit, a company official from Dow said on Friday.
The unit is located at Golmud in Qinghai province, northwest China.
“The plastics market in China is expanding and this new licence confirms the interest in using advanced polypropylene process and catalyst technology to produce differentiated resins for a variety of applications,” said Tracy Cleckler, global commercial director of PP licensing and catalysts at Dow.
The construction of the PP unit is scheduled to start in 2012, with start-up expected in the second half of 2013.
The unit will provide PP to produce homopolymers, random copolymers and impact copolymers.
PP is a versatile plastic used in packaging, durable goods, automotive parts, non-wovens, fibres and consumer applications.
