HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethylene margins remained mostly flat in the last week of August, after gains in ethylene spot prices offset slightly higher production costs, the ICIS margin report showed on Tuesday.
Ethylene margins were at 34.34 cents/lb ($757/tonne, €537/tonne) for the week ended 2 September, steady with 34.27 cents/lb a week earlier, using ethane as a feedstock.
Mont Belvieu ethane prices posted mild gains last week, being assessed at 71 cents/gal on 2 September, up by 1.4% from a week earlier.
Meanwhile, ethylene for September delivery traded at 63.000-63.875 cents/lb, up from 61.750-63.125 cents/lb in the week ended 26 August.
The increase stemmed from continued inventory building in the US as a result of ongoing and upcoming cracker turnarounds.
