SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s Shaanxi Weihe Coal Chemical Group has started up its new 400,000 tonne/year methanol plant on Thursday, a source close to the company said.

The plant is located at Weinan city in Shaanxi province.

“Construction of the plant was completed in the first quarter of this year, and then it started a test run in April,” the source added.

The on-spec products have not been achieved yet. “We are not sure when the on-spec products can be out because it is a new plant which needs more time to test,” the source said.

The company also owns a 200,000 tonne/year coal-based methanol plant, which feeds its own downstream 110,000 tonne/year dimethyl ethel (DME) plant at the same site in Weinan, added the source.

The methanol plant is running normally and has a daily output of around 600 tonnes, added the source.
