HOUSTON (ICIS)--An oil spill in the Houston Ship Channel near Sims Bayou is still under investigation, the US Coast Guard said on Monday.

The oil spill was discovered shortly after midnight on Saturday. The source of the spill has not been determined.

The Coast Guard has urged vessels travelling through the channel to keep speeds to a minimum to reduce their wake.

Petty Officer Prentice Danner said while they do not know the source of the spill, they know the spill is not continuous.

“It has been contained, but the cleanup continues,” he said. “It wasn't like a thick tar. It was more like a sheen.”
