HOUSTON (ICIS)--US imports of paraffin wax (p-wax) in August more than doubled from the same month a year ago, according to data made available on Thursday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
Imports of p-wax (less than 0.75% oil) totalled 22,012 tonnes in August, an increase from the 10,129 tonnes imported in August 2010, but a decrease from the 24,132 tonnes imported in July 2011, the ITC said.
China, at 11,843 tonnes, was the major source for p-wax in August. Other suppliers of imports included Thailand at 2,874 tonnes, Japan at 1,960 tonnes, Canada at 1,755 tonnes and India at 1,521 tonnes.
Other sources of p-wax included Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Germany and Colombia.
US exports of p-wax totalled 4,329 tonnes in August, an increase from the 4,123 exported in August 2010 as well as the 4,044 tonnes exported in July 2011, the ITC said.
Major destinations for US p-wax in July included Mexico, Canada, China, France, Japan, Philippines, Taiwan, Germany, Guatemala and Colombia.
