LONDON (ICIS)--Shell will begin maintenance work at its Rheinland refinery at Godorf near Cologne in Germany this weekend, the energy and petrochemicals major said on Friday.

Shell said the maintenance shutdown will affect one of its operating units at Godorf from 15 to 24 October. It did not disclose which unit would be brought down, and what production capacities would be affected.

The work is part of a regular review of the Rheinland refinery and will be carried out in cooperation with technical inspection agency TUV Rheinland, Shell said.

According to its website, Shell’s refining capacity at Godorf is 10m tonnes/year.

In July, Shell began work on a 3.8km (2.4 mile) pipeline project to connect Godorf with its nearby Wesseling site, where it has a refining capacity of 7m tonnes/year and produces petrochemicals.

In related news, Shell confirmed this week that contrary to earlier plans, it will not permanently close down its aromatics plant a Wesseling next year. However, Shell will, as planned, close down the smaller of its two crackers at Wesseling next month.
