US ethylene output drops 5.7% year on year in Sept - consultant

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethylene production in September totalled 4.204bn lb (1.9m tonnes), a 5.7% drop from 4.459bn lb produced in the same month in 2010, Jacobs Consultancy said on Friday.

Ethylene production in September also fell by 8.6% compared with a 4.598bn lb in August, the group said in its monthly Hodson report.

Measured on a daily rate, US ethylene production last month fell by 5.5%, according to the report.

US crackers operated at 88.6% of capacity in September, down from 93.8% in August and from 93.9% in September 2010, the report showed.
