LONDON (ICIS)--BASF Sonatrach PropanChem will shut down its propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit in Tarragona, Spain for repair and extend force majeure on propylene from the unit until early December, a company spokesperson said on Friday.

The force majeure on propylene from the unit had been declared at the end of September following a forced shutdown for technical reasons.

During October, the plant was run at a reduced output of 50% because of ongoing mechanical limitations. Repair work and a complete maintenance turnaround will be undertaken through November

The nameplate capacity of the PDH unit in Tarragona is 350,000 tonnes/year, according to the company.

BASF Sonatrach PropanChem is a 50:50 joint venture between Germany's BASF and Algerian oil and gas producer Sonatrach.
