Huntsman plans thermoplastic polyurethane plant in Shanghai

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--US-based Huntsman is planning to invest in a 21,000 tonne/year thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) plant at Jinshan Chemical Industrial Zone in Shanghai, a company source said on Monday.

The plant is expected to start operations in 2013 and will be part of the company’s global TPU production network that includes facilities in Europe and America, the source said, without disclosing any financial details about the project.

Huntsman is one the world’s leading producers of methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI), which is the main feedstock for polyurethane (PU).
