SAO PAULO (ICIS)--Brazil's fertilizer sales reached 3.4m tonnes in October, up 0.3% year on year, the Fertilizer Distribution Association (ANDA) said on Wednesday.

Fertilizer production in October reached nearly 934,000 tonnes, up 3% year on year.

Fertilizer imports reached 2m tonnes in October, up 10.1% year on year.

In the first 10 months of 2011, sales grew 19.1% year on year to nearly 23.9m tonnes.

Output in the first ten months of 2011 totalled 8.2m tonnes, up 4.7% compared with the same period of 2010, ANDA said.

Imports totalled nearly 17m tonnes in the January-October period, up 35.3% year on year, ANDA added.

Sales grew mainly as a result of higher demand for sugarcane, coffee, corn, rice, wheat, cotton and soybeans, the association added.
