SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals plans to delay the restart of its 40,000 tonne/year melamine plant at Osaka, a source familiar with the situation said on Wednesday.
The plant was shut for annual maintenance on 20 October and was originally scheduled to resume operations in the last week of November.
As of now, there are “no concrete plans for the restart [of the melamine plant]”, but the source estimated that it would remain shut for about 10 more days.
The extension of the shutdown is likely because of poor margins and weak demand for melamine, said industry sources.
