SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Petrochemical Corp (FPCC) is currently running its 600,000 tonne/year Group II base oil plant at Mailiao at 70-80% of capacity because of weak demand, a company source said on Friday.

It normally runs the plant at 95% utilisation, said the source, but added that FPCC has high inventories on hand at present.

The plant, which mainly produces 150N and 500N products, was taken off line for a few days and restarted this week, said another company source.

FPCC will reduce Group II exports to China to 10,000 tonnes in December from 15,000 in November, the first source said.

Most Asian base oils producers with high stocks are cutting export prices to China, an industry source said.
