SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Kuwait’s Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) has restarted its 820,000 tonne/year paraxylene (PX) unit in Shuaiba after a delay of more than a month, a company source said on Tuesday.

“We have achieved on-spec production,” the company source added.

The producer shut the unit on 19 October for a scheduled three-week maintenance, but delayed the restart to 10 December because of mechanical difficulties, according to the source.

As a result of the delay, the company is expected reduce its loadings for December by up to 30%, the source said.

However, PIC is targeting to deliver its full contract quantities for the January-loading period, the source added.

PIC has no scheduled turnarounds in 2012, according to the company source.
