Power outage in Saudi Arabia's Al-Jubail forces PE, PP plants to shut

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--A number of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) plants in Al-Jubail Industrial Park, Saudi Arabia, were shut on the evening of 19 January because of a power outage, industry sources said on Friday.

“We were told that our PE plant in Al-Jubail was shut because of the power outage, but we don’t know when it will be restarted,” a source at a Saudi producer said.

A trader in India said its Saudi supplier has informed him that the company’s PE and PP plants in Al-Jubail will be shut for at least 5-7 days and the company has withdrawn its offers for February as a result.
