SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Cross pacific chemical freights from the United States to Asia are firm because of tight availability of vessels from the US repositioning to Asia and strong demand for shipping parcel chemicals, a Singapore-based ship owner said on Friday.

“We are seeing firm demand for shipments of chemicals from the US to Asia ranging from 4,000-10,000 tonnes cargo size, and freights are being discussed at $100-110/tonne levels,” the ship owner said.

A fixture for 4,000 tonnes chemicals from the US Gulf to east China was booked at $118-120/tonne (€91-92/tonne), and another fixture of 10,000 tonnes biofuel from the US to Asia was booked at $105-110/tonne, according to market sources.
