Explosion at LyondellBasell Germany site injures 7 workers

LONDON (ICIS)--An explosion at LyondellBasell’s polyolefins production site in Wesseling near Cologne, Germany, injured seven workers on Saturday morning, the company said.

The explosion occurred at around 06:00 hours Germany local time (05:00 hours GMT) at a polymer facility, LyondellBasell said in a statement.

The plant has been safely shut down, the company added. It did not disclose which plant or what capacities were affected.

The seven workers suffered light injuries and were hospitalised for observation.

The cause of the accident is being investigated, the company said.

Meanwhile, local police lifted road blocks around the site that had been put in place as a precautionary measure following the explosion.
