SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Oriental Petrochemical shut its 680,000 tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Shanghai, in eastern China, overnight after the facility was hit by lightening, a company source said on Friday.

The lightening struck a boiler disrupting steam supply to PTA production and forcing the plant to come to a stop, the source said.

“We expect the shutdown to last for at least two days if everything goes smoothly,” the source said.

The shutdown will not have much impact on contract supply if it can be restarted two days later as the company has stocks, he added.
