SINGAPORE (ICIS)--PetroChina is planning to shut its 600,000 tonne/year bitumen plant, operated by its subsidiary PetroChina Xingneng Asphalt, at Jiangyin in Jiangsu province for maintenance in mid-April, a company source said on Thursday.

The turnaround is scheduled to last for about 45 days.

However, the shutdown schedule could be delayed if bitumen demand becomes strong, the source added.

The plant primarily produces AH-70, AH-90, polymer modified bitumen (PMB) and emulsified bitumen.

The turnaround is expected to further tighten bitumen supply in east China, market sources said.

Major bitumen producers in China have been cutting production because of poor margins, squeezed by strong crude values.
