HOUSTON (ICIS)--Dow Chemical confirmed on Tuesday it will shut down its epoxy resins unit in Freeport, Texas, in April or May for routine maintenance.
The unit has a capacity of 85,000 tonnes/year unit.
“We are doing this to ensure long-term supply availability for our customers,” a spokesperson said. “We have enough inventory built up to handle contract requirements for the duration of the turnaround.”
The spokesperson added that the turnaround will coincide with a government-mandated inspection of its 190,000 tonne/year bisphenol A (BPA) unit.
Currently, domestic prices for epoxy resins are assessed by ICIS at $1.55–1.65/lb ($3,417–3,638/tonne, €2,597–2,765/tonne) DEL (delivered) bulk.
