HOUSTON (ICIS)--Momentive Specialty Chemicals has started up a centre in Germany to develop and test lightweight structural composites for the automotive, aerospace and mass transportation industries, the US-based company said on Tuesday.
Momentive said that the first phase of its transportation research and application centre at its epoxy resin production site in ?xml:namespace>
The centre will work on a range of composite production technologies, such as high and low pressure resin transfer moulding, as well as compression moulding processes, Momentive said.
The centre will be equipped with a dosing/injection unit and press that was specifically engineered for the rapid production of small-batch epoxy composite test components, the company added.
“We believe that both material and production technology, hand in hand, will help us drive the upsurge of composites in the automotive industry,” said Joseph Bevilaqua, president of Momentive’s epoxy, phenolic and coatings division.
Financial details were not disclosed.
