Russia PP, PE production falls in January and February

MOSCOW (ICIS)--Russia's polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) production fell in the first two months of 2012, Russian statistics agency Rosstat said on Tuesday.

Rosstat said that in January and February, Russia's total production of PE was down by 10.3% year on year to 257,000 tonnes, while PP production fell 10.9% year on year to 104,300 tonnes.

Domestically produced PE and PP volumes dropped due to a shutdown at Lukoil’s Stavrolen plant in December 2011, the agency said.

However, polystyrene output was up 0.7% year on year to 58,400 tonnes, while polyvinyl chloride output rose 14.6% year on year to 122,200 tonnes, it added.
