HOUSTON (ICIS)--WR Grace has agreed with Dow Chemical to jointly develop new catalysts for polypropylene (PP) production, the US-based specialty chemicals and catalysts firm said on Thursday.

WR Grace said the catalysts would use Dow Chemical’s non-phthalate internal donor technologies.

Grace expects to begin commercial production of the new catalysts later this year, it said.

The catalysts, to be sold under Grace’s HYAMPP brand name, are non-phthalate catalysts that allow PP producers to make resins that improve the performance of plastics, Grace added.

Financial details were not disclosed.

Last year, Dow Chemical sold its PP production business to Brazil’s Braskem. However, the deal excluded Dow’s PP catalysts business.
