SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Petrochemical Corp (FPCC) has delayed the planned maintenance of a crude distillation unit (CDU) at its 540,000 bbl/day refinery in Mailiao until early May, a company source said on Thursday.

FPCC will shutdown the 180,000 bbl/day No 3 CDU unit at Mailiao on 10 May with the unit remaining offline for 50 days until the end of June. The CDU had been initially expected to shutdown in late April, the source said.

FPCC will also shutdown the 84,000 bbl/day No 1 residue fluid catalytic cracker (RFCC) and its 80,000 bbl/day No 1 residue desulphurisation (RDS) unit at Mailiao in early May along with the No 3 CDU unit, the source said.

In April, FPCC plans to bring its 80,000 bbl/day No 2 RDS unit back on stream, the source said.

FPCC's No 2  RDS unit has been shutdown since a fire in July 2010. The outage of the RDS unit has reduced runs at the refinery to around 80-85% of capacity. The outage also cut runs through the group's two 84,000 bbl/day RFCC units to around 70% of capacity.

The source said the Mailao refinery was expected to operate at reduced runs through April as the RDS unit was brought back on stream.
