LONDON (ICIS)--Two workers have been killed following an explosion on Saturday at an Evonik plant that produces cyclododecatriene (CDT) at the ?xml:namespace>
It is still unknown what caused the explosion but an investigation is underway, Infracor said.
Infracor added that Evonik's CDT plant was the only unit directly involved the blast, however, it was unable to confirm whether production at surrounding facilities in the chemical park has been affected.
A company source has said that the explosion has had no impact on C4 production at the Marl chemical park.
According to information on Evonik’s website, CDT is used as a starting material for flame retardants, flavours and fragrances, among other applications.
An official release from Evonik is still pending.
