SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shaanxi Shanhua is expected to complete construction of its 100,000 tonne/year 1,4-butanediol (BDO) plant at Weinan in Shaanxi in February 2013, a company source said on Friday.

The company invested yuan (CNY) 2.5bn ($396m) in the project and started the construction work in February 2011, according to the source.

The company currently runs a 30,000 tonne/year BDO plant, which uses calcium carbide and methanol as feedstock, at the same site.

BDO is used in applications of fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals, textile and car manufacturing.
