SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Chongqing Fuling Pengwei is eyeing a 15-18 April restart for its 900,000 tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) unit in Chongqing city after a scheduled maintenance, a company source said on Tuesday.

The company had planned to restart the unit after a week-long turnaround from 1 April but extended the shutdown period to two weeks because of “unfavourable market conditions”, the source said.

Margins for PTA makers have come under pressure since the fourth quarter of 2011 on the back of soaring feedstock paraxylene (PX) costs.

Chongqing Fuling Pengwei has suffered from higher logistical costs as its PTA facility is located further inland as compared to other rival PTA makers in China which are mostly located along the country’s eastern coastline.
