SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Chongqing Tianyuan Chemical is planning to achieve on-spec production at its new 100,000 dry metric tonne (dmt)/year caustic soda plant in Chongqing on 18 April, a company source said on Thursday.

The company has conducted trial runs at the plant, according to the source, without providing further details.

Chongqing Tianyuan is operating another 100,000 dmt/year caustic soda plant at 100% capacity at the same site, the source said.

The producer’s caustic soda capacity will reach a total of  200,000 dmt/year after the new plant is brought on stream, the source added.

A market player from southwest China noted that the company is starting up the new plant at a time when local market conditions are stable and prices in Chongqing are high.

Deals were recently heard at yuan (CNY) 2900-2950/dmt ($459.6-467.5/dmt) for 32% liquid caustic soda and CNY3000-3100/dmt for 48% liquid caustic soda, according to market players.

Chongqing Tianyuan Chemical is a chlor-alkali manufacturer in Chongqing in southwest China.
