US February nylon imports up by 43% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US nylon imports for February were up by 43% from the same month a year ago, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.

Imports increased to 6,764 tonnes from 4,721 tonnes in February 2011.

US nylon exports in February fell by 7% to 51,037 tonnes from the 55,151 tonnes exported in February last year, the ITC said.

Top destinations for US nylon exports were China, Mexico and Canada.

Imports came primarily from Canada, Germany and Netherlands.

The ITC groups several nylon materials together in its report – nylon 6, nylon 11, nylon 12, nylon 6,6, nylon 6,9, nylon 6, 10 and nylon 6,12. ICIS covers nylon 6 and nylon 6,6 in its pricing reports.

US producers of nylon 6 and nylon 6,6 include BASF, Custom Resins, DSM, EMS-Grivory, Honeywell, NYCOA and Shaw and Ascend Performance Materials, DuPont and Invista, respectively.
