SHANGHAI (ICIS)--Japan's Mitsui Chemicals is devoted to improving the qualities of its metallocene linear low density polyethylene (MLLDPE) in order to enhance market competitiveness, a senior executive at the company said on Wednesday.

“We don’t try to seize market share by less expensive price as our plant is located in Japan which lacks advances in inexpensive raw material. Thus, we are always devoted to improving our qualities, such as breaking strength, low odour and so on,” he said at the Chinaplas 2012 exhibition.

“We have met many challenges in the past year due to the high cost caused by the high crude oil prices and weak demand. What’s more, we expanded capacity of our MLLDPE from 240,000 tonne/year to 300,000 tonne/year in 2011.

"However, we still think that the downstream demand of MLLDPE will increase in the next five years as the economy will develop in the future, and the quality of life will get better,” the source added.

Chinaplas 2012, an international exhibition on plastics and rubber industries, runs from 18-21 April in Shanghai.
