HOUSTON (ICIS)--US phthalic anhydride (PA) April contracts are set to increase by 2 cents/lb ($44/tonne, €33/tonne), following the 2 cent/lb increase in the US orthoxylene (OX) March contract, market participants said on Wednesday.
US PA contracts usually move by the same amount as the previous month’s OX contract price because OX is the main feedstock.
April PA contract prices may reach 87-94 cents/lb for molten grade, and 88-95 cents/lb for flake grade, following input from industry sources.
March PA contracts were assessed by ICIS at 85-92 cents/lb FOB (free on board) for molten grades, and at 86-93 cents/lb ?xml:namespace>
PA is a key intermediate in the production of plasticisers, which are used to make products such as flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
Major US PA producers include BASF, Koppers, and Stepan.
