SHANGHAI (ICIS)--Thailand-based PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) plans to build a 40,000 tonne/year polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) plant at Map Ta Phut, for start-up in 2015, a source close to the company said on Friday.

Plans for the proposed plant are still being finalised, the source said at the sidelines of the four-day Chinaplas exhibition in Shanghai, which closes on 21 April.

PMMA is a transparent resin often used as an alternative to glass.
