SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Jiangsu Sopo Chemical has brought forward the maintenance shutdown of its methanol, acetic acid and ethyl acetate (etac) plants at Zhenjiang in Jiangsu province to 29 April, a company official said on Wednesday.

The company runs a 500,000 tonne/year methanol unit, a 500,000 tonne/year etac facility and a 1.2m tonne/year acetic acid plant at the site.

The starting date of the scheduled maintenance of 15-20 days has been brought forward from 6 May because the company expects to receive delivery of catalyst in the next few days, the official added.

Meanwhile, the producer is currently running the etac plant at the site below 50% of capacity, from 70% of capacity in mid-April, the source said.

Most buyers are adopting a wait-and-see attitude on the etac market because of weak demand, a market player said.

The spot prices of etac were assessed at yuan (CNY) 6,500-6,650/tonne ($1,030-1,054/tonne) EXW (ex-works) in east China on 25 April, according to Chemease, an ICIS service in China.

Other etac producers in China include Jiangmen Handsome Chemical Development, Shanghai Wujing Chemical, Shandong Jinyimeng Group and Rizhao Jiahong Biological Technology.
