HOUSTON (ICIS)--Vale named Roger Downey to head its fertilizer and coal businesses, the Brazilian mining giant said on Wednesday.
Downey replaces Eduardo de Salles Bartolomeo, who is leaving Vale, the company said.
Downey previously was an executive with MMX Mining and Metallic, Vale said.
Vale has announced plans to become a fertilizer industry leader.
The company said in July it planned to invest reais (R) 3.5bn ($1.8bn, €1.4bn) in fertilizer and logistics operations.
Vale and Brazilian energy major Petrobras on 13 April signed a memorandum of understanding to develop local fertilizer resources.
