US ethylene output in April falls 4.5% year on year - consultant

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethylene production in April totalled 4.025bn lb (1.83m tonnes), a 4.5% drop from 4.213bn lb produced in the same month in 2011, consulting firm Jacobs Consultancy said on Monday.

Ethylene output in April fell 3.1% by volume from 4.155bn lb in March, but rose by 0.1% if production is measured on a daily rate, the group said in its monthly Hodson report.

US crackers operated at 84.7% of capacity in April. The figure is up from 84.6% in March, but down from 88.8 % in April 2011, the report showed.
