LONDON (ICIS)--OMV had a plant breakdown at its petrochemicals and refining hub in Burghausen near Munich, Germany, on Tuesday that resulted in heavy flaring, the Austria-based energy and petrochemicals major said.

OMV said the incident occurred at around 15:45 local time (14:45 GMT). The company is investigating the cause of the breakdown, it added.

OMV did not disclose which production units or capacities were affected.

According to ICIS, OMV’s petrochemicals production capacities at Burghausen include 450,000 tonnes/year of ethylene, 560,000 tonnes/year of propylene and 160,000 tonnes/year of benzene.

Earlier this month, OMV reported an operational failure at Burghausen following a power supply disruption.
