SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Jiaxing Petrochemical, a subsidiary of Tongkun Group, has delayed the start-up at its new 1.5m tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Jiaxing in Zhejiang province to the second half of July, a company source said on Thursday.

The start-up schedule has been delayed again from June because of slower than expected delivery of machinery parts, the source said.

Jiaxing had initially planned to bring on line the plant in April, but it had to be delayed because of slower construction work at its port for obtaining feedstock paraxylene (PX).

The greenfield Chinese PTA maker was heard to have delayed up 40,000 tonnes or eight June shipments of feedstock PX as a result of the later-than-expected start-up according to trading sources.

The new PTA capacity is aimed for captive use, feeding into Tongkun Group’s own 1.6m tonne/year polyester yarn plants at Tongxiang in Zhejiang province, the source said.

PTA is the primary raw material in polyester production.
