SANYA, China (ICIS)--South Korea’s LG MMA is planning to start its new 11,000 tonnes/year methacrylic acid (MAA) line in August, a company source said on Thursday.
The company currently operates an 11,000 tonne/year line in Yeosu, the source said at the sidelines of the 9th China International Acrylate & MMA Forum. The one-day event is being held in Sanya, ?xml:namespace>
The new line will double its nameplate capacity to 22,000 tonnes/year.
“We hope to operate it from early August if possible,” he added.
MAA is produced industrially on a large scale as a precursor to its esters, especially methyl methacrylate (MMA) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA).
LG MMA has three MMA production lines at the Yeosu site that have a combined capacity of 176,000 tonnes/year.
